BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:
As an activist, artist, academic, writer, danzante, and mujer en ceremonia, Fe connects & crosses borders representing today's multi-faceted Xicana.
She is on the front lines of activism and organizing on a daily basis, not only writing and singing about the struggle but organizing it and making change in her community and world for over 12 years withing the women's art collectives IN LAK ECH and MUJERES DE MAIZ.
Having organized hundreds of cultural events for many artists and causes, her current goal is to focus more on her own creativity and finish her Master's thesis in Chican@ Studies to begin teaching at local colleges.

EXTENDED BIOGRAPHY:
Felicia Montes is a self-identified "Cali-Tejana, Xihuahuera, multi-media, ZapArtista mujer de maiz from the chill lomas of the Eastside Borderlands de Los Angeles."
She is a writer, performer, organizer, student, educator, and cultural activist who has worked with a long list of community organizations and art institutions including Self Help Graphics and Art and United Farm Workers of America.
She is co-founder and coordinator of Mujeres de Maiz- a collective of creative women of color and a member of In Lak Ech- a song and spoken word group of Xicana Indigena women.
Felicia received her academic education through a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA in World Arts and Cultures with a minor in Chican@ Studies. She is completing a Masters in Chican@ Studies at Cal State Northridge, focusing on the creation and documentation of Xicana feminist multi-media art through the Los Angeles collective, Mujeres de Maiz.
Creatively, Felicia has created and studied with world-renowned artists including poet and writer Cherrie Moraga, performance artists, Guillermo Gomez-Pena and Elia Arce, and producer extraordinaire Peter Sellars.
She has worked as an artist instructor and substitute teacher at local eastside secondary schools where she is involved in bringing cultural and social justice based assemblies around people of color, women, and the American hero, Cesar Estrada Chavez.
Currently she is the Public Outreach Director of the UFW Foundation, where she directs the annual Cesar Chavez Day Walk & Festival. the largest Chavez Day Celebration in California.
Felicia’s poetry can be heard on the debut CD of In Lak Ech's "Mujeres Con Palabra."
Her current projects include co-producing a music compilation in honor of the 2008 Peace and Dignity Journey; as well as co-founder of the online urban clothing and cultura store,"Urban Xic"-- the mercado for the movimiento ( http://www.urbanxic.com )
Felicia hopes to continue combining work with youth, young women, arts and activism and still keep the balance of mind, body and spirit.
