OScar Mireles

Oscar Mireles has extensive experience in developing community-based services, Fundraising and Hispanic Arts programming.

Mr. Mireles has been the Executive Director/Principal of Omega School for the past thirteen years. He has assisted over 1700 young adults with securing a GED/HSED credential in Dane County during his tenure at the school.

Prior to his work at Omega School, Oscar served in several different roles in his nine years at the United Community Center/Centro de la Comunidad Unidad in Milwaukee. He served as Associate Executive Director, Assistant Director and Director of Cultural Arts, Education and Economic Development. He was instrumental in initiating the development of the Latino Arts Cultural Center Theatre and Gallery and Café El Sol, a Mexican/Puerto Rican non-profit restaurant.

Mr. Mireles is a published poet and Editor of two anthologies titled “I didn’t know there were Latinos in Wisconsin: 20 Hispanic Poets (1989) and “I didn’t know there were Latinos in Wisconsin: 30 Hispanic Writers (1999) . He also published a chapbook titled “Second Generation” (1985).
He is recipient of grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board and Wisconsin Humanities Commission for his writings. He received a fellowship to attend the Vermont Studio Center. He has had over 100 poems published in many magazines, books and anthologies.
