This Poet wears Prada or nada at all. At the mic, this not quite five foot two Poet stands tall, even without her Jimmy Choo shoes. Anyone who says Talk is cheap and Actions speak louder than words and thinks that this poetry stuff is just for faggots and nerds has obviously not heard a peep of my words.
For the 3 to 5 minutes that I command your attention and you're with me for every nuance and inflection, I want to share your inner space and take you on a journey through mine. I want to see that light go on in your head and shine, 'cause that means we're relating and communicating just fine.
I want to get a reaction. I want to see you to take some action, even if it's just leaning forward or laying back with eyes closed to listen. If I can make your lips turn up in smile or get the tears in your eyes to well up and glisten then I know I'm doing it right.
Whether I'm rhyming, chiming or free-slamming verse, I want you to take a peek at our universe. I want you to feel, hear, smell and taste every sensation, 'cause poetry is about documentation as well as this thing we call "communication".
It's not just about self-expression and being heard. It's not just about our relationship with ideas and words. It's more about you and I sharing our world with the strangers who read the stuff we put down on paper after we're gone about this moment, this feeling, this idea captured yesterday that we share with each other here today that lives on.
This Poet wears Prada or nada at all. Forget this poor starving poet shit! Our currency is our words and wit, so stand tall, even without your Jimmy Choo shoes.
A former Wall Street banker, ROXANNE HOFFMAN now works nights answering a patient hotline for a major home health care provider based in New York City. Still trying to reconcile writing poetry and making money, she owns POETS WEAR PRADA, a small press specializing in limited edition poetry chapbooks. She has a chapbook/CD, Stolen Moments (Poetry Thin Air, 2006).
Her poetry is anthologized in THE BANDANA REPUBLIC: A LITERARY ANTHOLOGY BY GANG MEMBERS AND THEIR AFFILIATES (Soft Skull Press, June 2007)
and can be heard during the 50-minute independent film, LOVE AND THE VAMPIRE, directed and produced by David Gold and Rick Poli, and shown at The Arlene's Grocery Picture Show's 2005 Festival.
Her latest project is a new CD/Chapbook FLORA SELVA (Flower of the Jungle), dedicated to her mother and mentor, that explores her multi-cultural and multi-ethnic background.
POETS WEAR PRADA is a small press based in Hoboken, New Jersey devoted to introducing new authors through limited edition, high- quality chaplets, primarily of poetry.
New press, great authors, a publisher who is one miracle short of sainthood. - Angelo Verga, Poetry Curator of The Cornelia Street Cafe
Poets Wear Prada is a poetry publishing house with excellent poets and affordable books with beautiful covers. Have you had your poetry today? - Meredith Sue Willis, Books for Readers
Stylistically, these beautifully designed and produced chaplets bear their own distinctive signature.- Linda Lerner, Small Press Review

I don’t want falling in Love
& being pretty smart
O mamma mia
When the Train is Gone
I throwed in motion:
I don’t hit the nail on the head¡
I’m going wild against the Wall
Slap-up meal.
My brain’s been fucked
When yr love is come
Toot toot
Damn bitch ate my dog.
Then haulin’s yr Ass:
Love is a silly thing
Fancying that
All over the place
And to die
Of a broken Heart, ja, ja ja.
Hey captain¡ Hey captain¡
My arm chaplain is incapable.
Hey Captain¡ Hey Captain¡
I think we’re gonna cum
In the twinkling of an eye:
The end of the love
Lies inside you¡
Do you know
Do you see:
All lovers are
Rapier pigs bastard
Gentlemen of rape
Looking out
At all rissoles
In the churches’ streets
& saying:
” let me darkle
Or let me daze”
With Langston Huges’ motto
As we live and learn:
“Dig and be dug
In return”

Hi Roxanne thanks for the information. I was born in Mission but now I'm in San Antonio but hopefully I can have my book release celebration in Mission or anywhere in the valley. My poetry promotes awareness for womens issues such as sexual abuse and domestic violence. I have a couple of other manuscripts that I hope to have published one day. I will look into your other information you posted when I get home tonight. There is some information about me out there on the web. Please keep in touch.
